Hot Ideas for New Startup Businesses

  • By Karen McDonald-Hurley

The world is full of opportunities for go-getters who want to start their own business – but you need a great idea to start with!  Trends and customer tastes are constantly changing, so it can be a bit difficult spotting a clear market niche that you can take advantage of.

We’ve been watching the trends, so we’ve got a few solutions for small businesses to help get you started.  But do your research first!  If too many other businesses have already started up based on these ideas, you’ll want to keep looking.

Five Successful Startup Solutions for Small Businesses!

  1. Website Flipping

Sure, people can flip cars and houses – but you can also flip websites!  The Internet is overcrowded, and a lot of websites are sitting disused and abandoned by their creators.  If you can play matchmaker, seeking out cheap websites or domains to buy and then resell, you could make a lot of money.  After all, renovating a website is far cheaper than renovating a house!

  1. Local Internet Marketing

Online marketing is increasingly focused on local efforts – hometown businesses trying to get noticed by more of the local population.  If you’ve got an eye for advertising, or any skill in writing content, you could easily jump into the local SEO game.  It’s wide open, and plenty of areas still lack qualified local marketing firms.

  1. Device Repair Shops

This is a perennial business idea that never goes out of style.  Wherever there are devices, there are broken devices that the owners want to fix!  This is a great option for technically-minded people.  Also, you could do good side business buying broken tech and fixing it for resale.

  1. Monthly Box Services

Right now, monthly “grab bag” boxes like – Birchbox, Blue Apron, or Lootcrate – are huge.  Pick a market niche that doesn’t already have a dominant box service and get to it.  This is a first-come-first-served opportunity, so get creative in your theming!

  1. Personal Coaching / Tutoring

Do you have a skill -any skill- that other people would want to learn?  Offer personal coaching or training sessions!  Thanks to modern communications tech like Facetime or Skype, you could have clients anywhere in the world without having to leave your home.
